Meneghettijeva bazna bijela kupaža (cijena oko 70tak kuna) napravljena pod dirigentskom palicom Waltera Filiputtija, poznatog friulanskog enologa.

Its deep hay-yellow color already made me think the bottle doesn’t hide light and floral flavors typical of most Malvasias in Istria, but something more complex and ripe. Indeed, the nose is dominated by ripe yellow fruits (peaches and apricots). Custard cream and butter reveal the presence of Chardonnay. Pure Istrian Malvasia is never so creamy even when it had heavily passed through malolactic fermentation. At the end, Mediterranean macchia peeps out together with a bit of Sauvignon-like green grass, which is altogether a nice contrast to the dominant sweet aromas. Varietal aroma of Malvasia is also present, but it’s not so straightforward.

In the mouth, there is so much ripe yellow fruit that you think you can bite into it. Freshness is excellent and it supports the thick fabric of aromas and flavors with ease. Minerality is explosive, but this comes as no surprise since all Meneghetti wines thrive in red soil (crvenica) rich in minerals. I was very impressed by the harmony between the nose and the mouth – aromas are not too loud and noisy but elegant, while the flavor is intense enough that you can equally enjoy this wine even if you drink it from a normal water glass. All this with only 12,5% of alcohol! A big bravo to the winemaker!

Easy-drinking wine, excellent as an aperitif, but not only that. Its respectable body will easily support Istrian pršut (air-dried ham), rabbit in umido, while its roundness will put the bitterness that might come from slightly burned crust of grilled fish under control.

Although the label says you are drinking Malvasia, this is not a typical Istrian Malvasia, nor does it want to be. There’s no doubt, this elegant white blend is definitely trendy stuff that will seduce every foreign wine drinker and make them curious to try other Istrian Malvasias.

I zbilja, u nosu dominira zrelo žuto voće (breskve i marelice). Krema s rumom i maslac odaje prisustvo chardonnaya. Čiste malvazije nikad nisu toliko kremaste čak i kad debelo prođu kroz malolaktiku.
